Erebuni Historical and Archaeological Museum-reserve
In 1968, the "Erebuni" historical-archaeological reserve-museum was founded. Three famous ancient sites, Arin Fortress, The Red Hill and Shengavit become the foundations of the museum, and the material cultural remains found in those places find their place in the museum.
The museum building has the idea of Urartian palatial structures, preserving the external deaf walls and the inner courtyard with flat roofs, the logical principle of a popular residential house located around it. The architects of the building were Shmavon Azatyan and Baghdasar Arzumanyan. The author of the sculptures is Ara Harutyunyan.
In the museum, you can see more than 12,758 exhibits from the pre-Urartian, Urartian, Achaemenian, Hellenistic and early Armenian periods excavated from different regions of Armenia, which are located in 161 collections.
Here you can see Urartu's history, economy, architecture, fine arts, irrigation systems, wall painting, pottery, etc. Of great interest are 23 cuneiform inscriptions, among which there is a cuneiform stone telling about the birth of the city of Yerevan.
